Jabber

Jabber is a chatsystem. In many ways it resembles email. It's not intended for letters, but for chatting. Jabber is not a company and not a software program. Just like email is not a company or a software program.

Jabber client

The program you use to connect to a Jabber server. Pandion is a Jabber client.

Jabber ID

Jabber ID or JID is your address with which you are recognized on the Jabber network. It consists of a username, an @, and a server. A typical Jabber ID looks like: "[email protected]" (without the quotes).

Jabber server

A Jabber server is a server that offers Jabber. You can use a Jabber server with a Jabber client. The Jabber server is part of your Jabber UD; the part after the @.

SSL

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer and is also used by other services. It is used to encrypt your password so it can not be intercepted while it is sent over the internet.

Transport

A transport is a service offered by the Jabber server. When you register with a transport, you can log in to other networks such as MSN, ICQ, Yahoo!, etc.

XMPP

XMPP is the standard on which Jabber is based. XMPP stands for eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol. For more information about XMPP visit the website XMPP.org.
